Alright, alright.... I admit it.... I am 12 days older than Brian! So for our entire married life, he has teased me about how when we reach "the milestones", I will get there 12 days before he will! This year, we both turned 39... but I could already feel the torment coming on for NEXT year! So.... I wanted to beat him to the punch! I told a few of our neighbors, friends and relatives that this year was "the big one" and Bri was turning 40! Big deal, right? AHHH!! It was actually pretty great! Now whatever nonsense he pulls on me NEXT YEAR, I will always be able to say "But you turned 40 first!!!" Oh well... it was worth a try!
So we had a few black balloons, maybe a couple of "Over the Hill" signs, some gag gifts and some old pictures of him growing up.... So what!!! Nothing to fret over... He kept constantly reminding everyone he was "born in 1971.... do the math!" I, personally, think he was just in denial and tried to boost his spirits by telling him how good he looked for a 40 year old! Oh dear... I might've set myself up for some serious revenge for next year! I told him he could do whatever he wanted to me next year, just as long as we were celebrating on a beach in Tahiti, I could put up with just about anything!!!
He was a good sport about it... we had a good time and our friends did a good job making him feel old! Here are some of the gifts he got:
YIKES.... that was a bit of a blow to the ego!!! Oh well... we made up for it with "40 Reasons Why We Love Our Dad"... 40 cans of Diet Mtn. Dew each with a "reason" why the boys love their dad. Some of them were
"I love my Dad because he lets me ride on his back like a bull rider" --Boston
"I love my Dad because he THINKS he can beat me at Ping Pong" --Paden
"I love my Dad because he takes me hunting at the cabin" --Griff.
Well, Happy Birthday Brian... even though you ARE only 39 and I will be 40 almost two weeks before you are! URGH!!! No, I'm not mad or spiteful about it.... WHATEVER!!!
WE LOVE YOU!!!

That is SO CUTE!!! I absolutely love it. And looking on the bright side, you won't have to do a single thing next year; it's out of the way :)
Jen, that is hilarious! You definitely beat him to the punch! What a crazy, fun idea!
Bad idea! Revenge will come.
Love, Dad
LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea. I will absolutely be using this idea with Kent considering I get the same grief from you about me being older by just a couple days.
Happy birth, Bri!
You are so cute and creative! I may have to copy. I actually thought about throwing his surprise party next year when he is 39 so he will really be surprised. So fun!
