Elk Hunting in South Fork

A couple weeks ago, we headed down to the cabin for the annual Elk Hunt. It was great because this year, the kids all had the same time off for fall break! So we spent about 5 days down at the cabin, enjoying the beautiful fall scenery and looking for elk!

The older boys got up every morning at the CRACK and went hunting with Brian and Jason. They would be gone until around 2:00 then come home hungry and tired! Boston and I would sleep in, lounge around all morning and have lunch ready when they got there!! Then, in the afternoons, Bos would go out with the guys for the afternoon hunt. I even went out a time or two!!! I just am not a fan of the "5:00 am-freeze-your-booty-off-in-the-dark" kind of gal! I do much better staying home in my sweats reading my book by the fireplace!!

Now THIS is more up my alley!!

We took the four-wheelers out a couple times.... I'm sure we scared plenty of elk off that way but it was much better than hiking!!! Go me in my Camo-hunting pants! Dang, I even DRESSED the part!!! :)

Brian was so patient with all of us..... especially me and Boston! I couldn't decide who whined more, me, or him???!!! He really is awesome at making sure everyone is well taken care of and having fun.... which (in my case) was terribly hard to do!

One day, up on the mountain, the kids and I were waiting for Brian to come back to the four wheelers. The boys decided to build a "fort", ya know, in case we had to spend the night up there or something!! I was quite impressed with the end result! It even started raining on us and this little "lean-to" kept us dry! Pade was "all tuckered out" so he took a little nap!

Boston absolutely LOVED this trip... he was totally in his element! Are you kidding? Guns, lots of dirt, ATV's and snacks whenever you want?? That's a little boys' dream!!! (And thank you for the bunny ears in this picture!!! ARGH!!)

One of the mornings when everyone was gone but Bos and I, he decided to do some target shooting with the BB gun. I heard him talking and wondered what was going on so I looked out the window and this is what I saw:

I watched for a minute.. he was talking to his BB gun... he said, setting the gun down, "Now you rest up here, Lorraine. We've got a big day tomorrow"!!!! He had named his gun Lorraine (from the movie "Open Season") and I was rolling!!!!

The fall leaves were unbelievable! The beautiful scenery made the cold and the rain much more bearable!!

Wow... wonder what Grif is doing???!!!! (hee hee!) Gotta love the outdoors!!!

What am I doing, you ask??? I'm doing "the pigeon"!!!! ("Doin'..... the pigeon, pigeon. Doin' the pigeon, pigeon"!!!) Maybe you had to BE THERE to appreciate that pic!

Overall, lots of games, good food, cards, gun-shooting and 4 wheeling. Unfortunately, Bri didn't get his elk but we had a wonderful time just being together as a family.
