This year, I am the "Room Parent" for Boston's kindergarten class... yah, I know, I'm nuts!! Anyway, for the fall party last month, we had a great time! Because kindergarten is only a half day, the party was at 9:00 am so I was concerned about what we could do to entertain these 30 five & six year olds without overloading them on sugar so early in the morning!! So, instead of the old "stand-by" decorating sugar cookies, we made "pumpkin pancakes" and decorated them! The kids had a ball and the pancakes were a hit! (Plus, the room smelled delish after cooking them all morning!) We also had them make crazy spider hats with crinkle legs (see pic above) and also do an "Itsy-Bitsy spider" craft.
Here is my sister in law Melinda and our cousin Cole.... then, here is a pic of one of Boston's little friends and his pumpkin pancake!
To top off our great day of festivities, "Little Miss Muffet" (the Spider Lady) came to our class! It was really cool for the kids to learn about tarantulas and other "creepy-crawlies". But the BEST part was she brought her pet tarantula "Rosie" with her! The kids got to pet her and LOVED it.... I seriously thought I was going to die just knowing it was in the room with us!!! AHHH!!! I HATE tarantulas!!
The party, and the spider, were a big hit! It's a good day when you can say that about a class full of 30 kindergartners, one stressed-out-under-paid teacher and a couple of frazzled moms smeared with pancake batter and Elmer's glue! WAHOOOO!!! Done and Done!!!

I love the pancake idea Jen... Something different! I swear when I go do something at the school I have to drink a coke and take Tylenol before I start. Woa, I don't know how they do that every day!
Yay for parent volunteers...you know how much I love involved moms! I think this sounds like a blast. Great job and yes, cross it off your list! Boston looks so cute. What a fun day! loves, jes
Oh my heck, how cute. You out did yourself, Jeni! Pancakes for a party? You're a genius! Seeing Rosie gives me the creeps, however. I wonder how many "Rosies" there are; I remember one Brynn's year, too!
Great job Mom! You gotta love those room mothers! Great ideas and wow, how about that tarantula. It is humungous!
Love, Dad
